Sorry if some of you are reading the same post in two different places...I'm trying to get the word out.
Midnight showing, July 25th. Carmike Theater on Broadway. Kristi and I are going to get our tickets beforehand, and maybe you should, too. Because you're going to want to join us. It's the new X-Files movie, and we are going to flip our shit. We're unbelievably excited. See, some things never change. We're grown-ups now, but everyone should hold on to something that made them happy in the past, as kind of an anchor. With the two of us, it was this show. Deal with it...you know you liked it, too.
Please come with us - the more, the merrier!
Once. Anyone seen it?
Basically, it's the best movie I've seen in a long, long time, and the best use of five bucks that I can remember. I'm amazed. I didn't know that "Falling Slowly" won an Oscar for Best Original Song. It deserves it.
You know that feeling you get after watching an action movie in the theater...when you get in your car and think you can replicate the chase scene? No? Oh, well, maybe it's just me. I should sit in my car and wait for the adrenaline to slow down before I drive home, instead of revving my engine at stoplights to make the guy in the truck next to me think I want to race. I mean honestly, does he really believe that I'd pit my little Kia against his massive vehicle? I think not. Dumbass.
Wanted. Totally unrealistic, completely corny, and utterly fabulous. James McAvoy = DEAD SEXY TIMES TEN. Even Angelina Jolie was good, despite the fact that she's basically playing the same character she always plays. Excellent special effects, a decent soundtrack, and lots of humor, though I don't think most of it was intentional.
There's one scene towards the end, where McAvoy's character starts screaming the name of his rival (I won't give it away), and all I could think of was "KHAAAAAAAAN!!!!!! KHAAAAAAAAAN!!!!!!
Heh. I'd pay another nine bucks to see McAvoy's fine ass it again.
With Kristi out of town and this weekend's socializing already past (beers @ Cheddar's with Jessica, Yesi, Julie, and Kristan), I'm settling in for a nice quiet night with some fluffy rom-coms.
Back tomorrow with a much more bloggy blog. I've got thoughts that have been stewing for a few days, and I'm itching to get them out.
ETA: "Reading Jane Austen is a freaking mine field." --Jane Austen Book Club
Truer words were never spoken.
That's a quote from Kristi, uttered while we were all sitting in a Whataburger parking lot at 2am, too scared to go home because we'd just been completely freaked out by The Strangers. I have a splitting headache now and I'm afraid to turn off the lights and go to bed, lest a scary man with a potato sack over his face sneak in and kill me for the fun of it.
In other news: apparently, I still look young enough to have 18-year-olds give me their numbers. Cute ones, the kind that shop at Hollister, but like I've mentioned before, if I can't have a (legal) drink with them, I'm not even going to go there. He acted and looked a bit older, was very nice, and we had a hilarious conversation about music (he made fun of me and I made fun of him), but thanks to MySpace and the fact that he put his last name on the little slip of paper, I looked him up, found his age, and quickly deposited his number in the garbage. Sorry. *shrug* It's still quite flattering, though, and lifted my mood enough to make my shift go by super fast.
I really should be asleep, but I know I'll end up huddled under the covers with a pair of kitchen shears in my hand. As if that's going to do any good.
After months of mistakenly clicking on bootlegged and crappy fan trailers, I finally found the real trailer.
I had originally planned to only take one class this semester, but the more I think about it, the more I want to take two instead. Yes, it'll be expensive (I'm still considered an out-of-stater until January, plus the FAFSA disappointment). I'm considering taking two Tuesday/Thursday classes...I figure it'll be nice if I want to go out of town for a weekend, and not have to worry about throwing luggage in the trunk and speeding away after school.
Here's my plan: one yucky-yucky-get-it-out-of-the-way class (Math), and one fun class (History). A friend of mine has offered to tutor me in math (apparently, he's a genius) in exchange for sexual favors one of my kidneys cigarettes.
Freshman orientation is in July, and it looks like it's going to suck. The description reads: Two days of fun, activities, prizes, and new friends!! I don't particularly want to stand around with a bunch of teenagers and their parents and play idiotic "let's get to know each other" games. I doubt I'll be making many friends since I'm just there for an decent education, plus I'm an old biddy compared to most of them. Quite alright...I prefer to be able to get legally plastered with my buddies, thanks.
Oooh, maybe I should go Greek! Yeah, that'd be fabulous! Kappa Kappa BARF!!
We had a mini Crazy Insane Movie Night over at Kristi's last night/this morning. After sitting in the B&N parking lot playing the "I don't know, what do you want to do?" shrugging match for half an hour, we rented Dawn of the Dead and 27 Dresses (totally opposite ends of the spectrum, yeah? That's how we roll.), dropped by Friday's for a beer, were hit on by a man IN HIS FORTIES with this line: "Any chance I talked to the two of you last week?" We said, "No. Not. A. Chance." and he left. Can a girl get a drink in peace these days?
Back to the movies. Dawn of the Dead is the third zombie movie that Kristi has gotten me hooked on (the others are 28 Days Later and Shaun of the Dead). I can't stand gory movies, and boy, is this one overflowing in the buckets-of-blood department. Skulls exploding, arteries ripping...there's even a little zombie baby birthing. The characters are what made this movie for me, and not just because Michael (Jake Weber) is yummy. They managed to put together a group that's believable, and by that, I mean that a lot of movies these days give us these steroetypes (the blonde bombshell, the asshole, the angel, the tough guy). In this film, unlike the others, every single person in that mall could be someone you know. No one has superpowers, no one's been trained by the Navy Seals. I don't know; it's refreshing, and I don't believe there are too many horror flicks you can say that about.
As far as I could tell, 27 Dresses was great, predictably cute and bubbly and sweet, and I really look forward to eventually seeing it in its entirety. The disc was screwed up and wouldn't play, and after trying for ages to just skip to the next chapter, we just skipped to the end. Favorite part: the fact that they played "Be Here Now" by Ray LaMontagne at a pivotal moment. That just makes me happy. I didn't realize how much time had passed, but when we finished up the final scene and I grabbed my stuff to head home, I opened the front door and the sun was rising. I finally crawled under my covers at sometime around six this morning, then got up to go to work at noon. I'm too old for this, I think.
I can't remember the last time I went this long without posting anything. I'm so tired, and I'm been spending what little free time I have getting other stuff done and trying to keep myself healthy. I've got a lot to share, but I can't really put things in correct order, so this is all going to sound a bit jumbled.
Sex and the City was great. Hilarious! About ten of us went to the 10pm showing at the new theater, which is very nice. The line was ridiculous, wrapping around the hallway. We'd already paid for our tickets in advance and were able to get there early enough to get great seats all together. Saw some people that I went to high school with, but they didn't see me. Thank goodness. I took some pictures...I'm not posting them because I wasn't able to ask everyone if it was okay to blog them. I work with most of them, and I certainly don't want to piss anyone off:)
Earlier that same night, I was at my machine and a couple of my coworkers dropped an entire basket of batches on the top of it. Initially, I thought they were just waiting until someone could pass them out equally between everyone. Ten minutes pass, then fifteen, and no one picks any up. In fact, they keep dropping off more batches. That's when I realized that they were fucking with me. I just kept on working, acting like nothing was the matter, until one of the guys came up and said, "You're going to be able to finish these up before 9:15, right?" I looked up, purposefully wide-eyed and innocent, and replied, "No, I'm new, and I don't think I could. Sorry!"
I think they were sad that I didn't fall for it, and apparently, everyone in the office knew what was going on. I turned around and started laughing...prompting Yesi to hold up her phone and say, "I even got a picture!!!" Funny stuff.
Tyler's smoking ban started today, prohibiting smoking in public places (unless you're at least 20 feet from any windows and entrances). This pisses me the hell off. Most smokers don't stand in front of people and blow smoke in their faces; we remove ourselves to a corner or something, and exhale straight up. Yeah, I'm trying my best to quit, but damn! Brandy, Kristi and I are going to make t-shirts that say, Hey, Tyler City Council....SUCK MY BUTT!!
Whatever.
Oh, I saw the best license plate ever yesterday: SPORK 1
Spork!!!! The single greatest invention ever! How else can we eat KFC mashed taters?!
Tonight! Yay!
We nixed the Carrie Bradshaw-inspired outfits (eh, we're going after work, and I certainly don't feel like getting dressed up when it's Casual Friday at the office), and I don't know if we're doing the sushi (time constraints), but it's going to be a blast! Pictures if I remember to take the camera.
Loathing:
- not being able to sleep
- being a little poor
- papercuts
- not smoking
- breaking three of my nails while bowling...and they were just starting to look so pretty
- not being able to eat more of the guacamole before someone else finished it off
- lunges
- exercising and feeling better about myself
- not smoking (see, this is both a loving/loathing that only smokers can understand)
- being noticed
- smoothies, but not necessarily the effects
- this video ------------->
- Bath & Body Works' unbelievable sales
- B&BW Black Raspberry Vanilla body spray
Looking forward to:
- getting tomorrow over with (huge catch-up day at the bank due to being closed today)
- payday...bills, bills, bills!
- Friday, when I get to dress up (we're channeling Carrie Bradshaw for this particular outing), eat sushi, and watch Sex and the City!!
- my next day off
- working up to a steady jog without resting around the path at UT
