Leslie is in town, and she and I met up with Isaac at the pub. It was a sloooow night; there were maybe thirty people in the entire place, and it was karaoke night, too! I remember years ago, you could barely move around on karaoke nights. Things change. I'm sure between the smoking ban and gas prices, no one really bothers driving over anymore.
Had to grab food afterward. Leslie totally bitched out some drunk-ass teenager who tried to sit at our table...she even threatened to call the cops. It was insane. And hilarious. I told her she was a bad-ass.
One more day until Austin!
Sorry if some of you are reading the same post in two different places...I'm trying to get the word out.
Midnight showing, July 25th. Carmike Theater on Broadway. Kristi and I are going to get our tickets beforehand, and maybe you should, too. Because you're going to want to join us. It's the new X-Files movie, and we are going to flip our shit. We're unbelievably excited. See, some things never change. We're grown-ups now, but everyone should hold on to something that made them happy in the past, as kind of an anchor. With the two of us, it was this show. Deal with it...you know you liked it, too.
Please come with us - the more, the merrier!
I was listed on the Vox Music page for my post on Simple Plan! That's a first (that I'm aware of)! No wonder I was getting so many hits:)
I worked at the music store tonight, and Mr. I'm-Actually-Eighteen-But-I'm-Not-Telling-You came in with a few friends. He asked me if I remember him, and I admitted that I did. He didn't ask why I hadn't called, and I didn't bring it up. He seemed a little embarrassed, but I didn't make a big deal about it, and chatted with them all for a few minutes. Nice enough kids, I suppose.
Two weeks from now, I'll be in Austin with Leslie, destroying my liver. Can't believe it's almost here! I think we should make it a yearly ritual...something to look forward to every summer.
I've started studying for THEA, and it looks like I won't have any problem with the reading or writing areas. I'm pretty sure I'll get stuck in Remedial Math, since it's my worst subject, but that's okay. I'm still going to try my best. When I went up to TJC on Thursday, I got all emotional as I was walking to the Student Center, and I thought, "I've walked across this campus before, but never as an actual student. HOLY SHIT, I GO HERE NOW!" It was a truly kick-ass feeling. I don't give a damn if it's just TJC and everyone and their mother can get in. I'm elated.
My fellow American Vox peeps, I hope you have a great Independence Day. I'm about to eat a huge meal with my parents (both of them! I hope they don't kill each other), kick back, drink a beer, and enjoy my day off. Aaaaah!
Nothing cheers me up like the Discovery Channel, and their most recent ads are right up there with CuteOverload for all-around cuteness. Especially when Josh Bernstein flashes on the screen momentarily:) He's got a new show premiering in August...Into the Unknown. It sounds a lot like Digging for the Truth, but I've heard that they will not be focusing on the archaeology as much. Well, fine. I'll watch him it anyway.
July is going to be super-duper busy. Three birthdays, one birthday party, a graduation party, a baby shower, a national holiday, Austin trip, freshman orientation, THEA testing, CLEPs (?). Once August hits, I'll have a little time to clear my head before classes start on the 25th, then I'll be giving up my weekends at the music store for a while (I've asked to stay on the payroll so I can work during the holidays).
I have no appetite thanks to Lipozene. There's a whole dish full of chocolate sitting on the coffee table, but I'm not tempted by its evil, evil charms. I'm hoping this stuff works; all the things I've read and heard indicate a 50% chance of weight loss, and a 50% chance that I'll get pissed and chuck the bottle out the window. I've been able to eat really well the past couple of weeks, not counting one or two trips to Starbucks. Coffee, yogurt, and a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, cereal again at lunch (it's Special K...yum!), and a generally healthy dinner (pork chops and zucchini tonight, salmon and snow peas tomorrow).
I'll get weighed tomorrow at the plasma center, and if I'm lucky, maybe I've dropped another couple of pounds. The bikini countdown is on!
ETA: I just remembered (thanks to an email from Chris Baty) that NaNoWriMo is only a few months away! Maybe I'll actually win the fucker this year. Something always gets in the way. I think I'll set up a new user name. I don't like that my old profile says "Years participated: 6. Years won: 0." Ugh, that's just sad.

I am uber excited. Only a few more months!
I am an internet junkie. I'm on everyday, though I have successfully cut down my surfing time over the last few months in favor of reading/socializing/exercising/wandering around. I have a routine. I get up in the morning, start a pot of coffee, nitpick my appearance in the bathroom mirror for a moment while the computer boots up, and then I sit down and click on my "Favorites" link to officially begin my day.
- Gmail: If you don't have it...what's the problem? I love its never-ending storage space, the ease of navigation, the way it links your email conversations together; simply fabulous.
- Vox: Well, this is a given. I love you guys and the awesome stories you share.
- CuteOverload: Well, duh! What better way to put a smile on a cranky, sleep-starved face?
- ICHC: Always good for a laugh or a WTF!?
- Smart Bitches, Trashy Books: The best in cover snark, romance reviews, and hilarious videos, brought to you by a couple of educated and witty women. Be sure to check out Covers Gone Wild (The Non-Snoop Dogg Edition)!
"WHY do I look and sound like a chipmunk whenever I'm recorded? It's enough to drive a girl to drink. And I'm allergic to alcohol, which means I end up chugging chocolate milk, which really doesn't do much for my romantic image. GODDAMMIT."
- Crazy Aunt Purl: This woman got me through some tough times with her side-splitting stories on divorce, drinking too much, knitting, and owning diabolical cats.
"When he left I thought it was the VERY WORST THING ever to happen, and yet now sometimes Jennifer and I joke about that time I actually tried to set his favorite DVD on fire in the charcoal grill, waving my coffee cup of Jack Daniels and declaring in slurry twang "I will never find love again, but hell if he is getting this goddamn DVD!" I was like a drunken, mad Southern Belle stood up at Winter Formal, declaring to everyone and God Is Her Witness that 'I am truly dried up with love! You hear that, you little peckers! I am SHUT OF YOU ALL!'"
- The Fart Party: Oh god...it's like an alternate take on my life, in comic book form.
- Perez Hilton, D-Listed, Pink is the New Blog: Yeah, I'm a celebrity gossip whore. I can't help it. I have to get my daily recommended value of scandals and shameful behavior.
- Jezebel: What a women's magazine should be.
- Gawker: More pop culture.
- MySpace: Sigh. I can't escape it, and you probably can't either.
- PostSecret: I tend to check this only on Sundays, when the new secrets come out, but I can't tell you how awesome it is. We all have so much more in common than we realize. Struggles, triumphs, heartache...all part of being human.
With Kristi out of town and this weekend's socializing already past (beers @ Cheddar's with Jessica, Yesi, Julie, and Kristan), I'm settling in for a nice quiet night with some fluffy rom-coms.
Back tomorrow with a much more bloggy blog. I've got thoughts that have been stewing for a few days, and I'm itching to get them out.

Truer words were never spoken.
We've decided to switch hotels in Austin. The Omni is beautiful and ritzy, but I mentioned the other day that I'd like to hang out in SoCo, and Leslie did some research and found us this kitschy little place literally down the street from everything we want to do. Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock have both stayed there, and we got the VERY LAST ROOM. Must be pretty awesome. I'm just happy that we won't have to worry about sobering up to drive after hitting Sixth Street, and we can just stumble on back to the room.
Oh, and it's listed as a "Green Hotel"! Yay for that!
Look at all the stuff there is to do! Coffee shops, galleries, boutiques, fresh produce, bars, clubs, music, food, AGH!!
I'm prepared to fall in love with Austin again. Who knows...between Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, and San Antonio, I might find a place to set some roots down someday.
